Dear Fellow Members,

Its club championships time again, and I wanted to take the opportunity to wish all participating members well over the course of the event, in particular those newer members playing in their first club championships. It’s a lovely time around the club, great tennis, convivial atmosphere and members meeting other members on and off court for the first time.

With various restrictions and advice still in place it won’t be quite the same as we are used to but, hopefully enjoyable, nonetheless.

We will open the main bar for indoor drinks and spectating on several nights. Unfortunately, this comes with yet more restrictions attached – details of how these will apply are clearly laid out below. The main issue is an obligation, under law, to establish and record that all members using indoor bar facilities have demonstrated proof of Covid vaccination.  I can understand that some members may find this intrusive. I can tell you there are several members of the Executive, myself included, who are unhappy that the club is having to check the vaccination status of its members but, it is the law of the land and as an entity operating a licenced premises the Executive feel we have no other option. The balcony and ‘courthouse’ (with its nice new picnic tables) will be available for anyone unable or unwilling to share their personal medical information.

Just a reminder for newer members that there is no evening court availability Monday-Friday during the championships.

The bar reopening discount will end with the championships and bar prices will revert to normal so enjoy a drink during the event (alcoholic or otherwise) – you will be saving money!!

And finally, the 1c. charge for court lights will end on Sunday the 31st of October, coinciding with the club’s financial yearend.

Sincere thanks to the tennis and social committee for all the effort since we’ve returned to play and in preparation for the club championships. The club is lucky to have so many dedicated and hardworking volunteers. Also, thanks to Ursula, Ailbhe and Ter who have all had to shoulder a bit more responsibility since Louise stepped down.

Please familiarise yourself with the details of the bar opening as detailed below.

Enjoy your Championships.
